Austria: transit restrictions on the A10 Tauern Autobahn

Until 19 September 2026

Commercial vehicles over 7.5 t: Saturday restriction schedule in both directions

The Austrian Ministry of Transport has introduced, through a specific ordinance (BGBl. II Nr. 190/2026), transit restrictions for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes on the A10 Tauern Autobahn, one of the main road links between Austria and Italy.

The restrictions apply every Saturday, from 7:00 to 15:00, in both directions:

Southbound (towards Villach) — section Salzburg junction → Villach junction:
from 11 July to 8 August and from 22 August to 5 September 2026

Northbound (towards Salzburg) — section Villach → Salzburg:
from 18 July to 8 August and from 22 August to 19 September 2026

Several categories of essential transport are exempt, including: live animals, perishable foodstuffs, mail and newspapers, beverages for tourist resorts, humanitarian aid, emergency vehicles, waste collection and scheduled bus services. Exemptions also apply to regional transport operations and specific Austrian districts, parts of Bavaria, the north-eastern Italian provinces and certain Slovenian regions.

For information on alternative routes or clarification on the regulations, Members are welcome to get in touch: we are available to support them in planning their transport operations.
