CO₂ Eurovignette: new toll rules in Bulgaria
Tolls in Bulgaria: changes for heavy goods vehicles and alignment with European standards from March 1, 2026
Starting on March 1, 2026, Bulgaria will also introduce road toll calculations based on CO₂ emissions for heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons.
The measure is part of the implementation of the European Eurovignette regulation, which provides for the integration of environmental factors into toll systems, a calculation system that takes into account the CO₂ emissions of the vehicle, in line with European provisions.
The model adopted by Bulgaria will be aligned with that already in force in countries such as Germany and Austria, ensuring uniform criteria for vehicle classification and determination of amounts based on CO₂ emissions.
For road transport companies operating on international routes, this is a significant development that could have a direct impact on travel cost managementand fleet planning.
At Co.L.Se.A., we constantly monitor developments in European regulations on tolls and sustainability, with the aim of supporting our members in interpreting the new rulesand in the operational management of toll services.
